Open EVSE Build Day 2013

Held Saturday 05/18/2012 10am-3pm at oconnellvolvo.com in Alameda, CA and coordinated by ebeaa.org

EBEAA member Scott Corner tests the completed Open EVSE boxes

The EVent's gracious host O'Connell Volvo, allowed people ...

... to come and build their EVSE in their rear service garage

At the beginning with builders and helpers ready to go

Three tables were set up as three different stages of the build

The Open EVSE designer was on hand to oversee construction

Each builder brought their purchased components and tools

Showing how the power cables will run in and out of the box

Begin laying out the parts for building

Showing the bottom power assembly, the box and its cover

Begin laying out the cover components

Preparing to mount the screws and insulators

Some drilling and filing of holes was necessary for a proper fit

Screwing down the insulated/isolated display assembly

Unpacking some of the smaller wiring for construction

Some wiring came with the connectors already crimped on

Each builder ran and dressed their own power wiring

Some cutting & striping, and crimping connectors was needed

The bottom assembly was mounted in the bottom of the box

There's both a circuit 2pole circuit breaker and double fuses

Front face of the assembled top cover

A modified j1772 to 14-50 adaptor was used during testing

Each stage was stepped through during the test

One builder had his own design: a different box, a 40A relay, a built-in AC current meter, & used a tapplastics.com shaped plate ...

... to mount the components. The workshop was extended to 3pm so that people could continue working.
